Amdursky assumed his duties on June 18 2007. Prior to coming to Des Moines, Amdursky served as the chief executive officer for the Fraser Valley Regional Library based in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada. As CEO at Fraser Valley, he led the library through the development of a new strategic plan, reorganized staff, established a marketing department and family literacy initiative, introduced electronic services unique in Canada, and realized a budget increase of more than sixteen percent. Before working in Canada, Amdursky was director of the Kalamazoo Public Library for seventeen years.
