Are You Ready to Vote?

The League of Women Voters of Metro Des Moines will be present to provide voter information and registration assistance. To qualify to register to vote in Iowa, you must be:
•A U.S. citizen,
•An Iowa resident, and
•At least 17 1/2 years old (must be 18 years old by election day to vote.)

Be sure to have either your Iowa driver's license number, non-operator's license number, or the last 4 digits of your Social Security number with you to pre-register to vote. Come and learn how you can be a part of this important process.

General Election Polling Place

The Forest Avenue Library Meeting Room is reserved as a Polk County General Election Polling Place. The Meeting Room will open to the public at 7:00 AM for voting. The Meeting Room will close to the public and voting will cease at 8:00 PM. Library services will not be available to the public from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Library services will be available to the public during normal operating hours: 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Polling Place: General Election

The East Side Library Meeting Room is reserved as a Polk County City Election Polling Place. The Meeting Room doors will open to the public at 7:00 AM for voting. The Meeting Room doors will close to the public and voting will cease at 9:00 PM. Library services will not be available to the public from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Library services will be available to the public during normal operating hours: 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

The Obituary: Yours or Someone Else's with Mary Kay Shanley

Mary Kay Shanley traces the history of the obituary, addresses inclusion of factual information and life journey, structural concerns and the still-necessary guidelines for crafting a fitting obituary.Following the presentation, those interested are invited to spend an additional 20 minutes jotting down thoughts/considerations to discuss with the rest of the group.

Chuck Long: Destined for Greatness

Meet the legendary Hawkeyes quarterback! Chuck Long and Aaron Putze, author of Destined for Greatness, who will talk about Long’s career. Long will share memories of some his career, including the win over Michigan and his Heisman campaign in 1985. Aaron will discuss the book, which includes perspectives form Hayden Fry, Kirk Ferentz, and more. Copies of the book will be for sale, and Chuck and Aaron will sign copies and take photos!
